One day, at the end of a long discussion on Social Movements in Africa, a researcher wanted to understand where this strength to defy death and imprisonment came from. Was it madness?
What motivates this protest ardor? We talked about the assassination of Luc Nkukula in Goma, the young people in prison in the two Congos (Carbone Béni and company), in Togo (Foly Satchivi), in the Comoros (Said Ali Said Tourqui), those who died or went into exile and those who remain and who have chosen to fight whatever the risks.
The Format of the 2018 Edition of Upec
UPEC 2018 is structured around 3 main axes:
Axis I: Teaching and reflection on civic engagement, sharing experiences
UPec offers the opportunity for actors of civic movements and academics to interact through debates, exchanges, etc. Sharing can also take the form of a “talk show” where figures from civic movements are put on stage to deliver their experiences. Exchange visits can also be organized.

Axis II: Training and capacity building
Theoretical and practical training sessions, behind closed doors, will allow participants to strengthen their knowledge and thus perfect their civic actions. These reinforcements can be held by the movements themselves or by external expertise depending on the needs expressed and the themes developed for each UPEC. They can therefore deal with new technologies, activist/data security, non-violent struggle as well as the administrative management of organizations.

Axis III: Artistic events
UPEC is also a scene of civic expression through art. Also, artists from different fields will be invited to organize events. UPEC will host concerts, the production and screening of short and feature films, documentaries, the production of music, the staging of theaters and dances. Aside from performances, the university will also be a platform for training and exchange of skills for civic movements through art.
