Summary opening of the second edition of the popular university of citizen engagement

The second edition of the Popular University of Civic Engagement (UPEC) opened this Monday, December 14, 2020 at the Museum of Black Civilizations in Dakar.

Launched to the notes of the Daniel Brottier choir from Dakar, this edition is obviously taking place in a particular context linked to Covid 19. In strict compliance with the barrier measures recommended by the health authorities, activists from all over Africa and its diasporas are meeting again in Dakar after the successful 2018 edition.

An audience of nearly 60 people was nevertheless present, including the representative of UNESCO, Afrikki’s partner for the organization of this event, and Mr. Alioune Tine, dean of West African civil society and founder of Africajom Center, who set the tone from the opening. The day’s sessions took place as agreed. This new edition also allowed us to discover new movements that adhere to the dynamic. The themes addressed gave rise to rich exchanges between the participants and speakers.

From December 14 to 16, 2020, they will work together on the general theme: “Autocratic push: citizen action in question”. Gathered around the Afrikki platform, the citizen movements were very keen on the organization of this UPEC 2020.
